Exercise prescribed the way a GP prescribes medication.
0126 Exercise physiology and personal training
Exercise physiology delivered by Accredited Exercise Physiologists, built around a real functional goal and joined up with the rest of your support team.
Participants rebuilding physical capacity after injury or illness or holding ground against a progressive condition.
Exercise physiology is one of the most underused supports in the NDIS, usually because it looks like fitness and gets treated like fitness. It is not. An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a university-trained allied health clinician who assesses how a body is actually moving, prescribes a structured program against a specific functional goal, and adjusts it over months. We deliver exercise physiology under registration group 0126 through Accredited Exercise Physiologists accredited by Exercise & Sports Science Australia.
What we provide
Assessment by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist — a long first session covering medical history, medications, falls history, pain, sleep, fatigue and what the participant actually wants their body to be able to do
A prescribed program against functional goals — walk to the letterbox without resting is a goal; get fitter is not
Progressive, conservative loading — load and intensity increase slowly with frequent review, and setbacks are planned for rather than treated as failure
Delivered where the goal lives — the participant’s home, a local oval, a pool, a community centre or a gym — the setting follows the goal, not the other way round
Written reports every six to twelve weeks — what is working, what is not, what the next block looks like — the document that justifies the next plan’s funding
Carry-through between sessions — where it suits the participant, a support worker briefed on the program keeps the work going between EP sessions, under the exercise physiologist’s plan and review
Coordination with the rest of the clinical team — the GP, the physio, the OT and our own nursing team, so the work compounds instead of contradicting
Strength and conditioning work — for participants whose goal is capacity rather than clinical rehabilitation, delivered under the personal training side of 0126
Who it's for
A participant rebuilding strength and confidence after an injury, surgery or a long stretch of inactivity
A participant with a progressive or chronic condition where the realistic goal is holding ground rather than gaining it
A coordinator who has seen movement supports cut at month three because nothing was written down to show they were working
What makes us different
Most exercise physiology in the NDIS is a standalone appointment. A participant sees a clinician somewhere else, gets a program, and nobody in their actual week knows what is in it. We run it the other way round: the exercise physiologist writes the program, and the support workers who are already in the participant’s home, driving them to appointments and helping with personal care know what the program says and what to reinforce. That joining up is the whole point, and it is only possible because the same provider is doing both. The reason the service exists at all is our co-founder Dennis Pili-Gaitau’s conviction that the body is part of the plan rather than separate from it — which is why movement is built into how we support people rather than sold as an add-on.
How it usually unfolds
We start with a conversation about what the participant has stopped doing that they miss, and whether exercise physiology is actually the right support — sometimes it is not, and we will say so. If it looks like a fit, an Accredited Exercise Physiologist does the first assessment in person, in the place the work will happen. The first session is mostly talking. From there the EP writes the program, sets the review points, and briefs anyone from our team who will be supporting the work in between. Progress is reviewed in writing every six to twelve weeks, with the participant present. Changes are usually practical rather than dramatic — stairs stop being an event, a walk stops needing to be planned around rest stops.
